Lavars is a Melbourne tiling studio that cares, maybe too much, about how a room comes together. Setting-out drawn by hand before anything gets mixed. Cuts made twice to be made once. The kind of finish you only notice because nothing catches your eye.
Every job gets the same treatment — a careful setting-out, a sample panel before we commit, mitred edges where we can manage it, and grout lines you'd have to stoop to criticise. Tell us what you have in mind and we'll come for a look.
Bathrooms, kitchens and laundries. Book-matched slabs, mitred returns, flush niches, grout that reads as one line across a wall. Patient work for rooms you spend time in every day.
Small hospitality fit-outs and boutique retail — rooms that need to look considered from ten paces and hold up to ten thousand footfalls. Unhurried detailing, programmed around your trade.
Marble, travertine, limestone and Victorian bluestone. Honing, sealing, re-bedding. The sort of careful repair and matching that heritage tessellated and encaustic floors quietly ask for.
Tiling is one of those trades where the difference between a good job and a bad one isn't obvious on handover day — it shows up two years later, in lippage you trip on, grout that cracks out, or waterproofing that quietly fails behind the wall. We take the details seriously because we've been called in to fix enough of them. Give us a call — we'll come out, have a look, and quote it properly.
Happy to walk you through past work, answer questions on materials, or just talk through what you're thinking. No pressure, no sales pitch.
Four simple stages, no surprises along the way. Most people tell us the hardest part is the first phone call — so here's exactly what happens once you make it.
Give us a call or send the form. Marco comes out, has a look, talks through drawings, substrate and falls with you. A few days later you get a written quote with a timeline and a clear scope — no vague figures, no surprises later.
A simple setting-out sketch, cut plan and grout call-outs so we're on the same page before anything gets mixed. If you're working with an architect or designer, we sort the spec with them directly.
Our team on-site from screed to final seal. We send a couple of progress photos each evening so you know where things are at. Clean site, covered floors, tidy finish each day.
Final clean, seal and a walk-through with you (and your designer, if there is one). Care notes for any stone finishes. We back the workmanship for twelve months — if something shifts, we come back.
Marco drew the whole ensuite out on a sheet of butcher's paper before a single tile was cut. Four years later it still looks the day it was handed over — we've moved a towel rail and that's it.
We called Lavars for the tessellated hall in our Carlton terrace. They matched encaustics from three different runs and re-laid about forty missing pieces. You genuinely can't tell the old from the new.
Programmed a café fit-out around a six-day close between trade. They hit every milestone, sent photos each evening, and left the site cleaner than we gave it to them. Doing our next venue with them.
Whether it's a quick sanity-check on a spec, a quote for a bathroom, or a chat about what's possible in the space — we'd love to hear from you. Same-day callbacks most days.
